How it works
Unweighted GPA turns each letter into points (A is 4.0, B is 3.0, and so on, with plus and minus in between) and averages them by credits.
Weighted GPA adds a bonus for harder classes. A common scale adds 0.5 for honors and 1.0 for AP or IB, so an A in an AP class counts as 5.0. Failing grades don't get a bonus.
Schools set their own rules, and some use 5.0 scales or different bonuses. Treat this as a close estimate and check your school's handbook for the official method.

What's the difference between weighted and unweighted GPA?
Unweighted GPA treats every class the same on a 4.0 scale. Weighted GPA gives extra points for honors, AP and IB classes, so it can go above 4.0.
Is an A+ worth more than an A?
On most 4.0 scales, no: both are 4.0. Some schools give 4.3 for an A+. This calculator uses 4.0.
What are credits?
How much a class counts. Most full-year high school classes are 1 credit and semester classes are 0.5. In college, use the class's credit hours.
